Having a green move is possible

Moving internationally can be very overwhelming for most individuals, there is simply too much to think about and not enough time. If you are planning an international move while staying as eco-friendly as possible, check out the list we've put together for a green move.

1. Don’t buy more goods!

As soon as you know that you are moving, you should avoid purchasing new items and you should try to get rid of the needless ones. Sort your items in different groups and decide which ones can be recycled, donated or tossed. Try not to throw away a lot of items, only those that you have no use for. If you don't want to bring all of your books, you can donate them to schools or libraries. Find local charaties to donate clothes and other items that you won't be using.

2. Store the unnecessary items

If there are some objects that you think you will need in the future, but not during your expatriation period, a good solution can be to store them. You can either ask a relative or friend if they have free space or contact a storage company to keep them. If you need more information about storage services, feel free to contact us.

3. Pay attention to how you pack your goods

The easiest way to stay green is to pack in bags, suitcases and bins you already own and will need at your destination as well. This way you can limit the number of boxes you are going to purchase. Another good example is using packing materials from recycled sources. In addition to this, reuse the original packaging from your electronic items if you still have them (from phones to kitchen toasters) and remember to take only those items that you will use at your destination (do not take electrical items you won't be able to use).

4. Go digital

Despite being surrounded by technology, sometimes we still tend to print too many documents. Try keeping your files in digital format instead of printing them. It will be easier to find them later! Some papers need to be printed and signed, but a lot can be stored on your devices. If you are making a list of what to pack, store or donate, simply try using your laptop or mobile phone and make notes. You can easily delete them when they are no longer needed and it's a lot easier to find your phone in a crisis than a piece of paper.

5. Reuse your packing materials

After your relocation, you can give a new purpose to the used boxes, for example, by converting into a container for your child’s toys or helping out someone with their own relocation by donating it to them. If you have a lot of spare cardboard boxes, remember to recycle them at the nearest recycling center.
