Crown U.S. teams Move for Hunger

This World Food Day, we reflect on Crown’s work to get food to those in need.

On October 16, the world celebrates World Food Day. This important day focuses on efforts towards reaching zero hunger and commemorates the founding of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO). Move For Hunger is on the same mission to end hunger, and here at Crown Relocations, we’re all only too happy to support organizations like this. So, for World Food Day 2017, we reflect on our team’s outstanding efforts with Move for Hunger.
For over seven years, Crown Relocations has partnered with Move For Hunger in North America. Together, we collect unwanted food items from those who are moving and deliver the supplies to local food banks. We also help with other initiatives which, this year, included fundraising, food drives and food rescues from events.
Most recently, on September 24, Crown Relocations New York volunteered in a New Jersey food drive. With two trucks and four crew members, they helped to get the food donations back to a warehouse from each of the food drive locations. The crew collected and delivered 3,500 pounds of food, which is the equivalent of more than 2,900 meals. The Community Engagement Coordinator for the event said, “We couldn’t have done it without Crown Relocations’ help!”
In April, Crown Relocations Houston volunteered at the IRONMAN North American Championship not only to help serve the athletes but also to haul any unused food and beverages to the Houston Food Bank. The team were responsible for rescuing nearly 13,300 pounds of non-perishables. Similarly, in January, Crown Relocations Miami were able to rescue more than 13,000 pounds of food and beverage from the Miami Marathon. They then delivered it to Feeding South Florida.
Our help with Move For Hunger isn’t just about one-off events, though. It’s a continual effort that Crown Relocations Chicago are very familiar with. Every week, the crew there collect over 1,000 pounds of fresh produce and deliver it to a nearby food pantry that provides assistance to 1,200 people every month. The team there also collect unwanted food from customers who are moving, assist with food drives and rescue food from grocery stores. Move For Hunger recognized this extraordinary commitment and awarded Crown Relocations their Mover of the Month award for August, 2017! This is the second time our team there have won this award.
Move For Hunger’s Executive Director, Adam Lowy says: “Crown Relocations has been an amazing ally in our fight to reduce food waste and end hunger. The branches that participate in our program have collected and delivered more than 563,000 pounds of food combined. That's enough to provide nearly 470,000 meals. Move For Hunger would not be what it is today without their support.”
