The Taiwan Workforce Development Agency has introduced a new work permit allowing foreign national spouses of expatriates to do part time or professional work. The new work permit was introduced on July 26, 2017.
Qualification
The new work permit is available to foreign national spouses of expatriates who have work permits for Class A professional or technical employment. The spouse must also do Class A professional or technical work. This includes the following categories:
- Civil Engineering or Architecture
- Communications and Transportation
- Tax and Financial Services
- Real Estate
- Immigration Services
- Attorneys
- Technicians
- Healthcare
- Environmental Protection
- Culture, Sports and Recreation Services
- Academic Research
- Veterinarians
- Manufacturing
- Wholesale
- Other work designated by the Joint Consulting of the Central Governing Authority and the central competent authorities.
Dependent spouses must hold an Alien Registration Card and the proposed employment must meet the minimum salary for Class A professional work of NTD$ 200 per hour. The relevant education and work experience criteria for the relevant category of work must also be met.
An employer will not need to meet the usual capital and income requirements applicable to the employment of foreign professionals allowing smaller companies to employ foreign national spouses on a part-time basis with the new work permit.
