Switzerland has always been a sought after location for expats according to lots of surveys. However, the Swiss Federal Office of Statistics (BFS) has stated that over two-thirds of the country’s population growth in 2013, can be attributed to foreign immigrants. In fact, this growth was one of the highest rates in Europe, increasing its total population to 8,139,600 inhabitants. Approximately 80,000 immigrants enter Switzerland every year. So, by the end of 2013, the total number of expats living there rose to 1.9 million, accounting for 23.8 percent of its total population. Even though Switzerland isn't a member of the union, the BFS also confirmed that 66 percent of Switzerland’s foreign population came from EU countries: Italy (15.4 percent), Germany (15.1 percent) and Portugal (13.1 percent). It is evident that Switzerland has one of the largest foreign populations. In contrast to other European countries, where immigrants are leaving due to the lack of opportunities and increased unemployment, in Switzerland, there are plenty of chances for engineers, IT experts and financiers. If you are one of these experts and speak one the local dialects: German, French or Italian, your chance for a job opportunities is fantastic. According to the “Global Talent Competitiveness Index” released by INSEAD in 2013, which measures a nation’s competitiveness based on, the quality of talent it can produce, attract and retain, ranked Switzerland at the top. It’s also worth noting the country’s political stability and excellent education system. The Swiss love sports and nature and are very well organized, in all parts of their lives. And in a recent survey published by IMD World Competitiveness Center, measures how well countries manage all their resources and competencies to increase their prosperity. Switzerland was classified as the second most competitive country just after the United States. High quality of life, economy growth, quality of work with one of the highest salaries in the world, an expats dream!
