Dubai has been awarded the honor of hosting the 2020 World Expo trade convention.
On hearing the news, the Dubai Ruler promised that Dubai will "astonish the world" in 2020. Fireworks illuminated the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, and a day of holiday was declared for educational institutions across the country.
The news was celebrated not only by the organization committee and the locals in the UAE, but also by the entire Crown Dubai team. The staging of the World Expo, and the preparations leading up to it, are expected to result in 277,000 new jobs, an increase in visitors of up to 100 million and an injection of nearly $40 billion into the economy. Building plans for a huge exhibition center and a number of new hotels are in place, as is an extension to Dubai’s metro line. The Crown team is excited about the potential business opportunities that will arise from the planned activities.
Held every five years, for a period of six months, World Expos showcase the latest in architecture and technology. This is the first time that a World Expo will take place in a Middle Eastern city.
