We spoke to our Senior Relocations Consultant, Baquer Hussain about his experience working for Crown Relocations and his top tips to help you plan your next international move.
How long have you been with Crown? Can you tell us more about your role?
I've been with Crown for almost a year. My reception has been delightful, making it a seamless and pleasant experience.
As a Residential Sales Consultant, I'm the initial in-person representation from Crown; hence it's incumbent on me to articulate the services of Crown, provide a comprehensive description of the process, a clear depiction of the customs procedures, and explain the protection policies that Crown offers.
In addition, I'm also a part of the Middle Eastern Marketing team at Crown, enabling me to connect with my creative side.
What's the most common question clients ask you?
Transit times or shipping schedules are frequently discussed, and it's essential to notify realistic timelines. This helps plan the move right.
Furthermore, protection or insurance coverage of the effects is of great significance during the conversations.
What's the most common mistake clients make when moving abroad?
Moving with the cheapest monetary options - proposals with very low costs often need to be more accurate due to excluding certain mandatory destination costs. These charges are eventually imposed on the clients just before the final delivery.
Have you moved internationally? If so, where did you move from, and what was your experience?
I moved to Dubai with just a backpack. It was a remarkable experience for someone from a slow, calm, tranquil south Indian city straight into Dubai's fast paced and elaborate world. It's 17 years and counting; I couldn't have asked for better.
What would be your number one tip for anyone preparing to live and work abroad?
Set expectations, have a plan, be mindful of the surroundings and then go with the flow. Most important is to not regret any decisions made.
What is the most unusual move you have supported?
Amid the pandemic, I was part of a posthumous move which was a complex and uncommon experience.
What moment in your Crown career has made you the proudest?
Every positive feedback from clients brightens the complete team.
Besides that, at a personal level, it would be my first day at Crown. For someone who's worked his way up within the industry and to be a part of an organization that leads the market was a proud moment.
What are your favourite things to do outside of work?
Combat sports are of particular interest, and I do train periodically. Cooking is a gratifying experience, therapeutic at times. Besides reading, podcasts, movies, a good run etc., accommodate my spare time.
Tell us something that people would never guess about you?
I'm Batman!!
On a serious note, it's the knowledge I've gained over the years in filmmaking. The complete process of moviemaking is quite captivating.
What's the most unusual item you have ever helped a client move?
I was part of a move at Crown, which involved moving a rare motor vehicle engine turned art effect. It was challenging; however, our robust operations team made it simple.
If you could move anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Japan has always held a fascination for me to experience its meticulous culture.
