Hong Kong, August, 21, 2012 - Crown Worldwide has announced that two of its employees were each awarded a US$5,000 scholarship from the Alan F. Wohlstetter Scholarship Fund (AFWSF). Jessica Hughes and Jacky Chan were among the ten 2012 recipients who were selected to receive the scholarship in the form of tuition assistance. Both were said to be exceptional students with a bright future in the industry.
Jessica Hughes, Crown Australia’s human resources administrator, has been with Crown for approximately three years. Hughes holds an undergraduate degree in Business with major in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations, through the University of Western Sydney, Australia. She was hired by Crown Sydney’s Head Office in the role of Human Resources Assistant in 2009, and is currently working to complete her master’s degree in Human Resource Management at Charles Sturt University in Australia.
Jacky Chan, Crown Hong Kong Logistics assistant manager, has been with the company for six years and holds an undergraduate degree from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia, in Transport and Logistics Management. Chan is currently enrolled at the Chinese University of Hong Kong for his Master of Business Administration degree. He is also a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transportation.
Named after the distinguished founder and General Counsel Alan F. Wohlstetter, this scholarship is sponsored by the YP-35 (Young Professional 35 Years & Under) within the International Association of Movers (IAM). The scholarship aims to support the educational needs of the industry members and their families. By providing scholarships in terms of tuition assistance, it embraces a new generation of leaders and supports their future endeavors. In honor of its ten year anniversary in 2012, ten scholarships of $5,000 each have been awarded. The above Crown employees are two of the ten selected.
Hughes said of the honor, “I am speechless, to say the least. I could not be more grateful to be selected by IAM to receive this incredible scholarship. The enjoyment gained from my studies and work has confirmed that I have made the right choice in pursuing a career in Human Resources. I love working for Crown and hope that I can continue to contribute to our Human Resources team here in Sydney for a long time to come.”
Chan said, with similar sentiment, "I am honored and grateful to be selected by the IAM as one of the 2012 winners of the scholarship fund. I would like to express my gratitude to Crown for its help in shaping my career and paving the way for my career development, which has enabled me to be selected for the scholarship. Working for Crown Logistics has truly been an amazing and wonderful experience. Receiving this scholarship has fueled my determination and added extra motivation for me to achieve even better results for my graduate degree program. I hope to further contribute to Crown’s future business success using the knowledge learned and the experience gained through my MBA studies.
